This week has been full of good things including the recent sale of my Lawn-all the Weeds in my Grass artist’s book to the Koninklijke Bibliotheek (the National Library) in The Hague. I am so happy to be in this national collection. I am also tickled that my messy grass is now permanently remembered.

It is a strange book made with a cover of my own grass and filled with images of the plants that insist on growing there. It is a series of four books, this is the second one. Each original watercolour drawing is different. The hand-typed text is made on a “Brother” electric typewriter on loan from my neighbour. For the Coptic style binding I have to thank Hans Pieterse, the bookbinder I work with. Our ongoing, long-term cooperation is something I very much enjoy and I am glad to provide as many challenging problems as possible!

Square stemmed willow herb-a real challenge to unearth from the garden, it has the most beautiful roots.

As soon as it starts to rain regularly the grass is replaced with a carpet of spike moss. It makes the “lawn” particularly soft.
