Remnants: a Trace of Plants
I was recently invited to take part in a group exhibition with Embarrat Festival in Tàrrega, Spain. My project was inspired by a project in Amsterdam North. At de Ceuvel they are using plants for phytoremediation, to clean the soil of the toxins polluting the former harbour workings. The aim of the project is to introduce the idea of phytoremediation to a larger public and the leave the soil cleaner than when the city council gave the organisation the land. https://deceuvel.nl/en/about/sustainable-technology/
For the exhibition I propose a series of drawings portraying and exploring plants used in phytoremediation. I want the delicate wild planting to reconcile with the poisonous remains. The aim is to capture the fragile essence of these plants in stark contrast to the heavy metals and chemicals they filter.
The Great Machine VI exhibition will take place from 24th-28th of May, 2019 at the Museum Trepat, in Tàrrega http://www.embarrat.org/index.php/la-gran-maquina-vi/
