Closed grass box: Love Letter to my Grass 2022
The place to be this weekend is Galerie Ramakers, Toussaintkade 51, The Hague, NL https://galerieramakers.nl Opening from 15.00 to 17.30 on Sunday the 18th of October with a speech from the art historian Cees de Boer who curated this exhibition. The exhibition will continue until the 13th of November 2022.
I will be exhibiting my new work as part of my Cabinet of Curiosities. These include a selection of Love Letters to the plants in my garden. It even includes a Love Letter to my Grass, I am both proud of it and concerned I am contributing to the monoculture blanket lawn idea. As a result the grass is more to be described as a green patch of numerous grass varieties with a wild flowers coming through it.
My first nature cube in this series was part of the Nature Cube exhibition in the Geumgang Nature Art Biennale in 2017 in Gong-ju South Korea and is now part of the Nature Art Center collection. I used the rigours of the cube form to produce “book” works.
These pieces were created in the intimacy of my own space. A small space is a reflection of the larger world around me, studying the details of this immediate world inspired me to create both extremely personal pieces and those that reflect on the larger global issues. They are text and image works. The cabinet of curiosities began after I encountered the extraordinary collection of the Marquise de Robien in the Musée des Beaux Arts in Rennes (it dates from the 1750s). I have been researching this ever since.
