Becoming curious

News ON 6th March 2022

Presently I am exhibiting in a group exhibition at Phoebus Gallery Rotterdam until May 14th. I am showing the first part of my Cabinet of Curiosities in the “Ladenkast” (plans chest) exhibition. Perfect for curious objects and drawings as the originals were also displayed in cabinets and chests.

My Cabinet of Curiosities is based on the Cabinet of Robien in the Musée de Beaux Arts in Rennes. My starting point was my own garden. I am studying a garden that is showing signs of climate change-plants under stress, diseased trees. As the climate changes our native plants are finding it increasingly hard to survive, replacing these with plants from further south is a great idea however these do not (yet) sustain the same amount of insect life.

I love this garden and I am starting to build a sustainable organic garden and to restore a garden that has been neglected for nearly 30 years. As part of the creative process of lockdown I would draw the trees regularly. The cabinet of curiosities is a collection of drawings and objects.
