It has been such a long time since I last saw a mature elm. The one in the TU Delft Hortus was magnificent. I was given a tour by James Bing the director and he showed me the signs of damage from Dutch Elm Disease. The tree has since been demolished. I wanted to immortalise it by drawing its portrait also recognising the effect of this disease on the elm population, particularly since the 1970s when this problem was at its zenith.
