For the forthcoming Nature Art Cube exhibition at the Geumgang Nature Art Biennale, I am exhibiting Transplanted Lawn. The 12 x 12 x 12 cm cube is made of card, pencil drawing, grass and trimmer cord. The work will be on show from August 28th to November 30th in the Geumgang Nature Art Center, Gongju, South Korea before being incorporated into their permanent collection.
It is a pencil portrait of a small section of grass lawn in the Hortus Botanicus Leiden. Inside are individually hand-sewn blades of grass. These come from the Hortus Botanicus in Leiden and the Wertheim Park in Amsterdam, there are different grass varieties included as successive years of seeding has produced a lawn made of many different types of grass.
Lawn is underfoot and overlooked. This fragile piece focuses on the everyday while it is also a study of displacement.
